Hey why C295 is a crap?Originally Posted by lightfire
It has some disadvantages but it's stil a decent small cargo plane... Our C-130Es wil be much more crap than the CASA... Manufactured in the early '70s, without any major improvements, taken directly from the AMARC desert junkyard... They can fly for only 10 another years so we're going to need a replacement for them around 2017.
Anyway, An-70 is much bigger, it falls into other category. Having 2-3 of them would be great.
Where are you from?we'r gonna get some transports this year as well,I hope that won't gonna be 295s.

Old Hercs?no upgreids? unluckyI thought that will be smth fairlly new for trasport,SOF missions..
well maybe the replacement in 2017 will be just fine, for smth better.
I'm from Lithuania. Our choise is yet unclear, conteders to CASA are C27 Spartan and An70 and I think C-130. Our AF command have already looked at your C295. They weren't impressed much, but the price and some other aspects, which I am not familiar with, looks atractive.

Well the transport capabilities of the CASA are somewhat limited- it's a small airplane after all. It can carry about 9 tonnes of cargo, 70 soldiers or a single jeep- because it's cabin is relatively low. C-27 has better capabilties- about 12 tonnes of cargo and heavier vechicles, like the HMMWVs or armoured cars. However the big advantage of the CASA is the very low maintenance cost, much lower than the Spartan's.Originally Posted by lightfire

Polish MiGs have IFF and Navigation in NATO standard but fuel, electric and such ports are not in those standards, so it's part NATO, part exSoviet equipment and it makes some mess, hope we will order more Vipers shortly to replace MiGs and Su-22s. Having both systems is a logistics nightmare witch any modernization will not solve. The same apply to tanks… and soon to helicopters.
