    India v. China

seeing all these threads about people invading others..
what about if india and China went to war? The two largest countries in the world, with a decent military. If India were to invade China or if China were to invade India <with no other countries involved i know this is limiting and not really possible> and on nuclear options.. What kinda blood bath do u think that would be?

there were indo-chin skirmishes before.. however im asking about a full scale war..
is that even possible with the geographical barriers? dont think its that easy to move an army across the Himalayan range

Both sides better have some major heavy lift capabilities. Like you said the Himalayas are a huge factor in this. Tibet will be the major battlefield.

China relies more on the sea lanes than Japan,This is a fact. The Indian Navy would crush the Chinese circa 1970 Navy and starve them out.

The Air battle would be of biblical proportions,Same goes for the land battle.

I'd say it would be a balanced fight even without nukes.
India has had an excellent record against Pakistan and rebels but China too had many border clashes with Russia on rougly equal grounds. I couldn't possibly say who has the upper hand unless you count in the power of nukes and international pressure, because that is where China has the upperhand. They just have the superior economy at the moment and that is what counts when you're looking for support and endurance in a war.

wow wow, Russia vs China on equal grounds??? we owned them completely, with far smaller forces. the Soviet-Sino clash of 1969 left over 1000 Chinese dead, while the USSR suffered less than 100 casualties. That was the first time the GRAD was used in action.

I don't see the reason for assuming no nuke usage. After all, India's nuclear program was started explicitly to counter China's program. Most people think of India's nuclear tests in the late 90s as their first atomic weapons test, but their first tests were really in the early 70s, a few years after China started testing their nukes.

If any conflict starts between the two countries, you can be reasonably certain it'll get nuclear in a hurry. As people have pointed out earlier, getting troops over the Himalayas is a royal pain in the behind for either side. Both China and India have missiles with long enough range to hit each other's major cities.

India has more modern (mostly russian) equipment and would definately kick chinese ass if small-time conflict happened somewhere in the border area.
