L119A1 is actually the Diemaco C8SFW which is the Canadian heavy barrelled equivalent to the Colt M4 - this is used by Brit SF and other specialist units and may be fitted with the same H&K AG36 Grenade Launcher as used on the L85A1UGL.

From what I gather its generally accepted to stand for Land force or Land, but I could easily be wrong.

Our very own AIRBORNEJOCK has commented that there's an L110A2 now, with the sight rail on the top cover.

confused well the L119 is also the designation of the 105mm light gun used to fire single piece ammo th US bought it as M119.

L5 was the otomelara 105mm pack howitizer and the 76mm gun on the saladin the scorpions is the L23.

With the designator you also need the title

Rifle 7.62mm self loading L1a1 was our old friend the SLR
ther was an L1a2 and an L1a3 for use in the Royal Navy as a gun line thrower

Yeah, this is the case with US Army and US Navy designations as well. Each specific type of equipment has its own seperate hierarchy.

    Is there such a thing as a semi-auto SA80?

  13. #13

Where would the market have been for such a weapon?

Prior to the post-Hungerford semi-auto weapons ban, Enfield were marketing a semi-auto only version of the L85A1 to the civilian market, but it was prohibitively expensive and I never heard of any being bought in any numbers. Of course all would have long since been destroyed.

theres apprantly 80 sitting in an armoury somewhere possible police issue?
a civillian version or even a cadet rifle.
semi auto rifles were legal until hungerford.
and the sa80a1 was an excellant range rifle very accurate and easy to handle.
had some advantages for police issue compact and easy to transport but at the time the police were going for 9mm carbines they now retooled with the g36
so the semi auto was built
