Default My Grandfather in the Army, 1936

In 1936 my Grandfather did his military service as a Infantry-soldier in the Altabataljonen.
In 1937 he had an accident were he fell down in the engine-room on a fishing-boat and broke his leg. Unfortunatly for him, the doctor that gave him "treatment" for the broken leg was drunk as a skunk when he fixed the foot. That resulted in that another doctor had to re-break the leg with a mallet later on to fix the foot so he could walk normally.
Due to this he was not called in when Germany attacked Norway in 1940. For him it was a great loss that he had to stay home while his friends was called for in our country's time of need.

Here are some photos I found up on the attic.

If I'm not wrong, it is. But look at the bayonet. It seems like it is a mile long...

    Great pictures Ich...
It“s nice to see some old pictures of old relatives. It doesn“t matter if its from sweden, germany, USA or as in this case, Norway.

    Good job everyone.

Sorry, know this thread is damn old but my great grandfather was in Altabataljonen to. He fought at Narvik, and when the germans lost he managed to get hand on a Walther P38(still shoots like hell).

Going to check if we have any photos of him.

And to bad about your grandfather not being able to fight for his country, must have been very hard on him. Although he was lucky in one way, many good men\boys died in that war. And many of those that lived got personal problems afterwards. God bless them all, whatever side they fought on.
