The parade looked really nice ,although it was very hot yesterday. And the new hardware looks impressive.Especially the new LMV and the piranha. I heard that the piranha will be the backbone of the armored troops for the next year. And the Leopard tanks will be retired all of them.
Is the LMV really the replacement for the Bombardier or are those armored "hummer" like jeeps meant for foreign operations? Personally I find the LMV beautiful and quite impressive. I hope it will be a good investment.
I think originally the LMV was supposed to replace all Ilitis jeeps but not enough LMV will be bought to do so, so the LMV will mainly be used I think for units on foreign operations and units who are training in Belgium to replace them. Same with Piranha IIIC and Dingo II. However I am sure some generals in Belgium probably will have a LMV instead of the Iltis, even they don't realy need it.Originally Posted by Doomhammer
I believe it will replace the Iltis completly.
Are 620 vehicles (if all options are included) enough to replace them all?Originally Posted by DeZzErX
Yea but I don't think there are at this day still 2600 in service. Even if they can't replace em all the Iltis will probably be retired anyways? Right?Originally Posted by calimero2

actually, it's quite insane. You send brand new vehicles (like those pandurs) to Africa or another country, transported by lousy Russian maffia company's, you lose them. And than what? Flahaut doesn't give a **** about it. But for the troops it's a great loss. Instead of selling all old vehicles (and I mean those old vehicles who are sationed in the depots) which we're not going to use anymore. I believe someone told me once ,there were hundreds of old army vehicles left to rot in their garages and they were still in good shape to be used by third world countries or other countries.
Or those F16's, Pakistan wanted to buy a few, and that would give us some extra money. But our so called "pacifistic" politicans had porblems with their "conscioussnes. And not to forget that whole minimi-crisis.
Hopefully they will retire the Bombardier once. It'sa nice jeep but obsolete. Most modern armies choose nowadays to develop heavier, armored jeeps. Nearly all European armies have, or are developping armored 'hummer type" jeeps. Hell If I recall , even the Russians have now a completely new armored jeep. Don't know the name of it, but it looked nice and probably more protected than the old GAZ jeeps from the soviet era.
The US government blocked the sale of Belgian F16's and I doubt that the Belgian governement would have wanted to damage its relation with India. I also believe that the pandur's are back in Belgium. The problem with old stock is that most Nato countries and certainly former members of Warschauwpact have huge stocks as well.Originally Posted by Doomhammer
I don't think that Belgian MOD made al lot of bad decisions but that they have to row with money they have.
Doomhammer, get your info straight, we werent allowed to sell them by the Americans.
