They absolutely have to. At the risk of sparking another greek-turkish flame war, let me remind you that about 37% of their territory is under foreign occupation since 1974, Lefkosia (Nicosia in English) is the last divided capital of Europe after the Berlin Wall fell, and that occupation forces in the northern part of the Island are offensively deployed. Still, IMHO, Cyprus needs to build an Air Force with kick-a$$ interceptors like the MiG-35 (still called the MiG-29OVT) or Su-35 so as to hold out in case of war, until we can send reinforcements.

Well there were plans back in the early 90's to send a squadron worth of Mirage F1CGs over to Cyprus as a donation, and in fact Greek Cypriot were in the Hellenic Air Force Academy, but the plans were scrapped.

To maintain a working air force is too expensive. Missiles are cheaper and can act as a delay until the HAF were to arrive just as good.

Excellent pics!!! I didn't know Cyprus has such a modern Russian equipement. As I see they use Mi-35s (got to love those!) BMP-3s and T-80. Do they use anything of western origin? Again thumbs up for the pics. Regards

Migs-25? For what? They're so fast they would run out of Island before even beggining their maneuvre

This picture (from the first page) really surprised me:

Does anyone have a clue if they purchased more 1P29 rifle scopes?

That is a 1P29 rifle scope, it was supposed to be issue gear with the Ak-74 and PKM's, but so far I only saw 3-4 pictures of it in use with Russian forces, so I was wondering if the Cypriots bought a lot of these?

OOOPS! Big time typo error! After all, the Foxbat has been totally retired from service by all users (the last one with the MiG-25R being India). I meant MiG-35, the name of the MiG-29OVT after it enters production, the first customer in all likelihood being India. Sorry fellas, will correct post as well.
