Nothing is wrong with the facts, but I guess the fat lady hasn't sung yet. A lot of people in Switzerland will want to have a say in this.

Let the kids play with their playstation.

By the way, congratulations for this sale. The Gripen is certainly a good choice given the price. Eurofighter or Rafale would certainly have been completely overkill.

X2, I think you put it quite perfectly.

Sorry, I don't know any pilots personally. I will post, when I see some statements made.

It's funny what it stands for though,

    Eidgenössisches Departement für Verteidigung,

I guess the MOD handles sports related issues in der Schweiz?
Yes, the same minister handles sport and the army. If you want fit soldiers, I don't think that this is too bad a choice. But it always has been a point of discussion in Switzerland.

I agree, those jets or the F/A 18 might have been too much for what a NATO-surrounded country needs.

Indeed great news for SAAB. May be this will persuade the Brazilians too. Ms Rouseff seems to be more worried about money spent on defence than Mr.Lula for example.

Gripen won the contract, but ironically, gripen was the lowest ranked aircraft in the 2 tests by the swiss military.

Considering all specs of the aircrafts I dont trust thoose evaluation charts. Atleast not untill I see more details. The only MAJOR difference is range and max takeoff weight. Agility, speed, radar, weapons are about the same.

Congratulation to SAAB and hard luck for Dassaul & BAE.

Yep. I agree! I see all these comments about Gripens (in comparison) "poor" performance, and I cannot really understand this. As far as I know, Gripen performs very well in many key aspects. But if two engines, with all that this means, is important then Gripen is having a rough time - agreed. Still, there's so much more than this, and I really do believe Gripen performs great.

I think Switzerland made a wise and good choice and that they will be happy about it when they start using Gripen.

Well this evaluation is based on how the aircraft can operate in swiss air force's doctrine. If i remember correctly, swiss operate their aircraft pretty low and small borders make supercruise and high altitude performance unnecessary. How can Rafale, at a more advanced stage of development, not top this evaluation.

What do the Swiss need the Rafale, Eurofighter or even Gripen for? After all, this tender (and the option to upgrade their existing F-5 fleet by RUAG!) has shown that the decision to cancel the development of the F-20 Tigershark was an incredible stupid one.

€dit: By the way. It seems the Swiss have gone back to their old, indiginous Piranha / Jäger Light with the choice to buy the Gripen.

    Meteor perhaps ?
As long as Gripen is the only fighter capable of operating this game changer, it has the upper hand in BVR.
In WVR, Gripen has HMD, again unlike Rafale.
This also question the general assumption that Rafale is "at a more advanced stage of development"

Ok, i like the concept of F-20, but how did this particular tender show that it was stupid to cancel it ?
btw Gripen is as close as it get to F-20.

Swiss did look into upgrading F-5, but concluded it would be too expensive to be cost effective
