Default Dutch troops kill 18 Taliban

Dutch troops stationed in Afghanistan have killed 18 Talibanfighters recently. The action began ten days ago and has been concluded today.

The troops sprung into action because Talibanfighters were observing the Dutch camp near Tarin Kowt from a position high up in the mountains. There was an accute threat, according to general **** Berlijn, commander of the armed forces, at a pressconverence.

The action was executed with amongst other things F-16's, Apache-helicopters and a number of armoured vehicles. There were no dead or wounded on the Dutch side.

not all that significant among all the other news but I suppose this is the first offensive action by regular forces of the mission so I guess it really is on now

wonder if there's going to be more details, sounds like a big deal (biggest offensive operation since 1962?)

Apparently Taliban were observing Camp Holland near Tarin Kowt and a smaller camp near Deh Rawod from the Baluchi valley situated about 10 KM away. Together with OEF forces the valley was whiped clean of Taliban, Dutch commando's taking the mountain ridges and OEF forces the valley. No details about the total numbers of killed Taliban by OEF forces in the valley itself were given.

You can find the entire article here (it's in Dutch).

Glad nobody got wounded or killed, hopefully it'll stay this way.

21-07-2006 17.30 THREATS TEN KILOMETRES ABOVE TARIN KOWT SUFFOCATED "the Dutch soldiers on camp the Netherlands in Tarin Kowt had recently charge of direct threat", thus commander of the armed forces, general **** let know Berlin today. According to him there even talk of the largest threat was so far. Only ten kilometres at north of Tarin Kowt in Zuid-Afghaanse the province Uruzgan lie the Baluchi fall slate. Here entrenched themselves the previous time much hostile entities. From the mounts those so-called Opposing military Forces, under which members of the Taliban can harass, very easily the Dutch camp. The Deployment task force (DTF) were forced do something to the situation. That happened thus, and in close cooperation with coalition troops of operation Enduring Freedom which were simultaneously with their own operation busy in the fall slate. The ' operation Baluchi ', supported armoured conveyors, Apache fighting helicopters and F-16's, was wound up successfully today. The situation in Baluchi-pas are after now intervene of Dutch commandos under control. The Dutch formed tevens beveiligingselement in the south of the concerning area and with that have prevented that hostile entities pulled away direction Tarin Kowt. The purified area has been taken by Afghan National Police prevent that Opposing military Forces take the area again. On own side the ten days lasting action provided no gewonden or kills on, on hostile side, however,: "eighteen strijders have been eliminated", confirm Berlin during an overview of the current state of the art concerning ISAF training period III. The military commitment in Baluchi-vallei had the population as positive bijwerking that gratefully showed themselves, but according to Berlin also not unimportant: "the point of departure for task force Uruzgan has improved." The advancement of the camps in Tarin Kowt and Deh progresses Rawod for this power, which it 1 takes over august of the DTF, steady meanwhile the number of in Tarin Kowt arrived convoys has increased up to twelve. Moreover there have arrived also already three in Deh Rawod. All those transported goods come among others from eleven hundred sea containers. Moreover the Dutch have already 205 vehicles.
