Default US Marines wearing nomex suits?

Looking through the image gallery at USMC.mil, I've been seeing alot of infantry Marines wearing nomex suits instead of utilities, and I was wondering if anyone might know what all this is about. I know that it's fairly common for Recon units to wear them, but I've never seen them used by infantry. Is it to protect against flash burns from IEDs or what? Here's several examples of what I'm talking about:

From the captions of these specific photos at least, none of them are LAR. The units depicted are 2/8, 3/8, 1/25, and 3rd Civil Affairs Group.

The stamp is one of the number of random marking on the MCUUs, they're also placed randomly on the jacket and the pants. It's not always next the the EGA.

Ahhh ... cheers ..... it did seem .... well ... a bit random.

Is there any particular reason for the random markings on the MCUUs?

Thanks Ratamacue for the very nice pics.
I am also interested why the USMC's MEU and Force Recon use Flight Suits.
    Hopefully, somebody will answer this.

Beacuase they are confy, they are easy to get into and out of, and because they do not burn when caught in an IED.

The Eagle, Globe, and Anchor is not set randomly into the uniform. one row is right side up, the next is upside down and so on. It is done so that no matter where the emble is, there are some right side up. It was for ease of manufacturing.

Protection against burns would be the best reason. As for why regular infantry are wearing them, I am not sure, I'll have to ask some of my buddies. My best guess would be for, you guessed it, burn protection from IEDs and the like.

On another note, they are also preferred because they are comfy as hell. I never realized how uncomfortable cammies are until I put them on for the first time after wearing a flight suit on a regualr basis. A flight suit looks sloppy compared to cammies, but it doesnt really get any more comfortable than that.

If the PLT commander approves it...then you can do it!
