In the late 1980s, Om Prakash, an artillery soldier was sent on a patrol on Malaun Post in Bila Complex in Northen Glacier, where he single-handedly beat back the enemy, bet never returned back after that. No one saw him or his body, but troops were forewarned in their dreams about impending dangers on the Glacier, after which the faith in OP Baba increased and temples were built in his name. Reports of missions are regularly given to him before and after. OP Baba not only protects the personnel on the Glacier from the enemy, but also from the hostile nature and terrain. Troops talk about getting dreams whenever a warning is to be issued from the Baba.

From bed-tea to all meals during the day, first the offering is kept for the Baba. All ascending and descending troops first report to the Baba, before even taking water. There is a lot of faith and it helps in a terrain like this. No non-vegetarian food is cooked on the Glacier."

Troops give up tobaccoo, alcohol and non-vegetarian food during thier three-month tenure on the Glacier.

BEL offer an upgrade to the elderly Bofors L-60 gun. All hydraulic parts have been replaced by electrical/electromechanical systems and an integrated FCS and an optronic sight have been added. It also features a Belgian BARCO AMLCD display and voice/visual communication.

BEL's 'Reporter' Tactical Control Radar is an early warning, alerting and cueing system that also includes weapon control functions. This highly mobile system features clutter suppression and high resolution.

BEL's first LPI radar prototype for the Indian Navy. BEL is also upgrading the old Shilka self propelled air defence system in cooperation with the 50th Army Base Workshop. The Ku band fire-control radar will receive a new transmitter with updated receiver, signal processing unit, radar computer, weapons computer, PPI display and commander's display console. Optronic units, a datalink and a cabin airconditioner have also been added. The system will also have a new Hindustan Powerplus Caterpillar diesel engine of 280 hp at 2000 rpm.
