Default The Assam Regiment - Battle Of Chhamb

War Hero Of the Battle Of Chhamb -

The fifth battalion of the Assam Regiment was deployed as part of 191 Infantry Brigade on the west of Munnawar Tawi River. The battalion gave a sterling account of its fighting qualities against heavy odds.
On December 3, 1971, while the unit was busy preparing defences, laying mines, the battle commenced in the evening. Repulsing a number of attacks launched by enemy, infantry and armour, supported by heavy shelling held out doggedly in the face of heavy odds till they were overrun by the sheer weight of numbers. Local counter attacks were launched to recover lost positions. Numerous heroic actions fought, but the unit had to bow to superior numbers. Despite repeated bids, no reinforcements came in and mortar ammunition ran low. Losses of officers and men kept mounting as each piece of ground was fiercely contested for and fought over. On the evening of December 6, 1971, the unit was ordered to fall back across Munnawar Tawi. The fall back was successfully completed on the night of December 6/7, 1971.
During this operation, Capt K S Rathod’s gallant action at Barsala needs recounting. He was placed in Command of No 6 platoon of B Company which covered one of the main approaches into the battalion area. On the afternoon of December 6, 1971, with mortar ammunition having run low and little artillery support available, Capt Rathod’s platoon was attacked by a troop of armour and approximately two infantry companies. A fierce fight took place. Small arms and ammunition ran short. Capt KS Rathod realising the situation he was in and not wanting his men to be slaughtered, ordered them to pull back to the other platoon localities of the same company. This brave officer, however, stayed back and asked others to leave all their grenades behind. The enemy seeing the move, accelerated the attack but was held at bay by the gallant officer single handedly, till he was finally overwhelmed and killed. Even the enemy paid tribute to Capt Rathod at a flag meeting held in January 1972. They recalled the gallant act of this brave Rhino.

Sometimes when the probe goes in-out some fuel is spilled. Likewise when the refuelling is terminated, as the probe is released, some fuel will always come out. Nothing dangerous there.

I did not make those posts...my account was misused by someone..anyways i would like to request every member here..Kunal, You, Vaman, Muzungu and every member who has been posting pics and links about ou defence and Army here to contribute on the Army FAcebook page, people care over there unlike here and all of you would get appreciation instead of bans..and i dont think many people from India know of this place anyways so posting stuff here is futile unless you want to impress people who are not from India...we need to let our own people know of our military..
