New Stryker boasts plenty of firepower
The 10th and final version of the Stryker armored vehicle to be delivered to Fort Lewis looks a lot like its predecessors, with one exception.
One big exception.
The Mobile Gun System features a 105 mm cannon. Five years in the making, it brings much more to the fight than other versions armed with a heavy machine gun, a grenade launcher or anti-tank missiles. “This will bring a lot more firepower, a lot more versatility to what the infantry can do,” said Sgt. 1st Class David Cooper, a tanker who leads a platoon of three of the new vehicles in the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment.
The new variant – they call it the MGS – is designed to back up the infantry with a gun that can blast through walls, knock out a fortified sniper nest, stop another armored vehicle and clear a street of enemy fighters.

I wish Ireland would lash a few of those 105's on our Mowags. That would make the enemy think twice before shaking things up!
Nice pics and info, thanks! So Im guessing the US Army is considering an invetment into MGS. Whats the CFs position on it so far, I thought they were also considering the system?
Nice pics. Now to get the SAF to buy one to replace the AMX-13s.....![]()
the CDS, General Hilliar was a black hat. thank god for that!

For the US the MSG might be a good idea, as you will also have a lot of other systems on the battlefield to back it up. Like the M1. But for canada it would replace all other systems and have no back up.. is its crap for Canada. there are better sytems out there for canada like centanro. The MSG carries only 18 rounds and can't be reloaded from the inside and can't fire on the move.
Glad to hear the new CF brass wants to cancel it. Maybe they can get it totally canned before the next election, because if the Liberals get back.... it'll be here to stay, if the CF is even allowed any upgardes at all.
The MGS would make a great fire support vehicle. But as already pointed out, it's not a main battle tank. Hopefully the decision makers in Canada realise this, as they're only going to spend on one system, the MGS or something else.
Have they ever thought about a 105 on a LAV chasis?
