    Help needed, Ranger School

Hello folks. I've been around for a while but not really active on this forum, and I would love to get some information regarding Ranger School. First of all, I live in Sweden and have so for the past 16 years but originally born in Cali. So you now know that I am an american citizen. My father is living in Florida, and I'm here in the cold with my mother. I am now 17 years old and interested in joining the U.S. Army next year. My plan is to "choose" the Ranger Contract, which includes Basic Training, Airborne Training and finally Ranger School.
My dilemma is that I'm not sure how to make this dream of mine come true. I've always been interested in the military and been training for this age to come.

So if anyone out there sort of "know" a good plan, please share it with me, because I'm running out of time here.

    Best regards, Wynn

How have you been training for this? Do alot of force-marching in Sveden? Well you can do two things as far as I see... move down with your dad and talk to a recruiter the day you arrive... or you can search online for recruiting center websites near where your dad lives or anywhere else. I'm just assuming that when you get to the US you'll be at your dads for a bit.

How to get an Option 40 contract

Goto a US Army Recruiting centre, talk to a NCO there, tell them that you want it. If you qualify for it on your tests, etc make sure they get it written on your contract, than sign it.

    Too Easy.

good luck son, do you know what MOS you want? I know they are doing MOS's other than 11B with what you are looking for such as: 21B, 25B, 13F and so on.

Watch the barracks lawers in here. Definately talk to a recruiter but contacting some rangers would be of help.

Don't get too wrapped around the contract. Ranger "contracts" aren't all that common so know that you have to make an impression.

My advice is to get through the application process through MEPS. If a ranger slot is available there and you qualify, then it should happen. Just make sure you get some indication of what it takes to qualify for ranger school right off the street. Also, take a bit of a reality check and figure out if you are up to it. Wanting to be a Ranger and having the stuff are two different things.

Warpig I disagree, if he can contract for a particular MOS he wants and especially scholl slots, I say take it. I would never let my future or career be in the hands of a recruiter, big Army or some Marine zero in Quantico!

Dude there is pleny of sites oin the internet that go in depth about rangers. If you do sign on the dotted line, sign for as many schools as you can. I was a boot PFC at SOI/West and this ****ing ass hole had ranger, jump and scuba school contracted in his enlistment package. We did'nt believe him until we graduated and sure enough, I'm headed to the fleet and he was headed to jump school.

Don't read into my comments. It is definately possible to get that on a contract.. just don't get too wrapped up and hopeful for it. If you manage Ranger school in writing.. go for it. Just don't want you to get the idea that it sells like adding the leather upgrade to the SUV you want to buy.

Just remember that several things have to happen to let a Recruiter offer that kind of contract.

School slots have to be available to recruiters or MEPS personnel to offer.
You have to prove that the slot won't be wasted on you. A high AFQT, line scores, straight ones on your PULHES, and a more specific physical. I can't remember if the Airborne physical covers RIP or if there is a specific Physical exam for it.
You have to be available to go to school on the dates they have projected.
The Ranger contract will not be available for any MOS nor any contract length.

Dont' get me wrong.. I am not saying to not go for it.. just know that getting it contracted is pretty uncommon. Plus, getting Ranger school doesn't mean you get stationed in a Bat.

    DRWs,

You Option 40 contract does not include Ranger School, it invovles RIP ( Ranger Indoctrination Program ). You will do Infantry OSUT, Airborne School, and then RIP. Not many people make it through RIP. If you do make it through RIP, you will be sent to Ranger School eventually.

Exact-a-mundo! To do that you need to show up at indoc with a Ranger tab sewed onto the front of your hat, just above the rank. That way everyone knows you really mean it.

    Good Luck!!!

Problem is, someone will go out and do that, or even worse get a tatt of anything Ranger related God forbid before showing up at RIP.

IF YOU GO TO JUMP SCHOOL GET THE DUMB TATTOO AFTER YOUR FINAL JUMP. OTHERWISE YOU WILL WANT TO PEEL IT OFF THE ENTIRE TIME. When I was there we had a guy show up with one on his back, the black hats made sure he felt great......
