Ok the start of a Romanian side folder for my son.
and my daughter shooting the one I made for her several years ago.
Thought I'd open a new thread for people to post pictures and talk about projects they're working on so we don't add 9 million posts to the Firearm Collection thread...Post anything you want in here from complete builds to stock refinishing to metal working tips...I think there are a lot of talented people in here and it'd be nice to share ideas and advice. I'll try to post some pics of the longrifle I'm working on as I get some more done on it, I also have some extra fancy walnut rough cut for my old Savage 99 .243 deer rifle I need to get cracking on.....Cheers.

Hey Hollis, will you adopt me?
Make me one next pleeeeeeeeeeease?![]()
I have two more to make, a AK74 and a AK47. There is a AK forum where people get by with minumun tools, such as using screws rather than rivets. If I was building a few I would make a jib for making the bending job easier. I use a pan brake, a spot welder for the rails and squeezer for the rivets along with a press. A grinder is needed to remove the old rivets, and dremal to open up where the rivets have a blind hole at the top of the trunnion. Then the receiver needs to be heat treated. Maybe some grinding for final fit, or adapting a folder to the receiver. It is a couple hours work to make one. Ak's are pretty forgiving for small errors. I have also built a number of dummies for re-enactors. I try to make them function pretty much like the real firearm, ****, barrel removes (bren), magazine, take apart. But they can not be made to fire. I am getting ready to build a Thompson 1927 SMG for a guy.
Thunder, maybe one way to besure your children are safe around firearms, also they can drive my truck, operate a ATV, they are very dependent. They both hunt.
I received my first rifle when I was 7.
My nieces and nephew are 8, 11, 13, and 16. They all know that guns are not toys. I have taught them that. I taught safety rules and proper weapons handling. They don't view it as a toy because it goes bang! They know it's loud and powerful and not to be taken lightly.
If you want to talk about kid and firearm safety go start one in PD&R. This thread is about firearms build.
In the first photo on the right was the flat the receiver will be made from
There will be four bends, two on the top and two to create the valley. After measuring will the bends will be the first (top) bends are done. First photo.
Second photo is after the valley set of bends are partially made. The rails are spot welded to the flat.
Hollis, I want to do that but the only tools I have are Snap-ons and a Dewalt drill.
What are the legality issues with building your own weapons?
are any components controlled parts? requiring licences or can you mill and blue all your own parts?
"Bluffcove is having bad thoughts about his workshop!"
This will be a semi auto, you can tell by the rail, there is no slot for the tripper rod. and on the flat no hole for the it either. Building a select fire is very illegal in the states...and NOT WORTH IT.
Also in building this, a number of US made parts will be used to make it compliant. The trigger assy is US made.
The next steps will be to finish the bends (bottom in valley). Then the trunnion and stock mount are check for fit. Then it is receiver is hardened.
It will be a few days before I get to it, I have some other projects that need current attention.
I bought the Pan brake and spot welder from Harbor freight for about $150.00 each (on sale). The squeazer (for the rivets) was about $300.00 with all the doodads.
As I understand it, you can assign any serial# you want to a built from scratch firearm, but you cannot sell it on?
I caught wind of a guy on ARFcom that was doing that with built from scratch AKs, apparently the BATFE wanted to speak to him.
When I built my STAG AR, the lower already had a serial# as I purchased it as a stripped lower, but I know that you can mill an AR lowers from scratch, I guess the same would apply regarding serial#s?
Good idea for a thread CJ![]()
I have read comments on that ... That is creating a fictitious serial number same punishment as altering a serial number. SO NO... do not give it a number.
A US citizen can legally build a fire arm for personal use, It can not be sold. Also ALL NFA rules Applies.
BATF does not have a sense of humor.
