Cheap sort of says why. Weaver makes inexpensive rings that are not too shabby. They come in heights, so it is a good to have a idea how high of a ring that you will need. Weaver mounts and picatinny rails are compatible. There are also raisers that will attach to your rail and give your scope additional height. I think they come in different heights too. If you were near me, I have some 1" rings that I could give you if they worked.

I figured a short cut on the barrel trunnion rivets. Rather then press things or grind out, I would wire weld the old rivets to the flats. Then use a tig to smooth things out. Cuts constuction time by about 1 hr.

I did realize you can turn a M70 machined frame kit into a rivet job??
I'll be interested to see any interim picture(s) during the build..

You can, but it's a lot of work to machine down a milled receiver stub into a front trunnion.
My kit shows a front trunnion with rivet heads cut off and remaining rivet bodies still in the trunnion locked in by the bbl.
Then there is a long rivet on the bottom that has to be carefully removed by through drilling.

Interesting and valid (Saves removal of the bbl to depress the rivet stubs still in the trunnion and the remaining long rivet through).
Personally I prefer a rivet build to remain pure to the design (Riveting is also a fun rediscovered art ).

Yes, I have a good press and riveting kit w/squeezer. I added new rails, but used the wire welder/Tig method. You can form the welds to look like rivet heads. Hard part is the bolt conversion and trigger assembly on the MG42. The easiest conversion was the Bren Gun and RPD. The 1919, was next in line. Machining the inner parts was cutting tool expensive. I was too lazy to set up a cooling flush when I did it. You need to make a riveting jig for the inside of the rails. It will support both rails and allow a press to do it's magic.

One on top is the squeezer that I have. I have a set of anvils and two other heads. I have avoided having to buy the commercial AK rivet jigs.

I have a Rivet set like this I bought in the 70's. I can use a press, hammer or air hammer.

Mine. The only one I didn't build was the L1A1 (center) . I traded the G1 style (right) for a SIG 556 last month. I had help with my builds from FAL File members who had tools and experience.
