    Default Puukko

I'm looking to buy a puukko. There is one that I'm interested in for sale from a company in Maryland, but I'm not sure if it's wiser to buy one from overseas instead. Cost is a bit of an issue, but I can scrape up the money if I need to.

    Anybody have any suggestions?

I think it's best if you contact to different manufacturers and ask from them if they have that kind of puukko you want and how much it would cost. There's one company in Florida, which is importing Finnish puukko to United States.

    And here's few manufacturer's websites

Is that the one with the wheel retention, given to Finn soldiers?

yes that has wheel retention, at least the one I have. It's a nice one, maybe not the best, but nice one for sure. The wheel retention works properly and you can hook it up to your vest in many ways with its straps and you don't have to worry about it coming off, at least I never noticed any problems even when doing different exercizes..

    MaineFinn:

What do you need the puukko for? Is it just for show, for woodworking or for something different?

The one in your picture looks like a nice general-purpose or utility puukko, but for woodworking I would choose a tad shorter one. Better to make wooden whistles with .

Now, if I just could persuade Spyderco to make me a light folding knife with a puukko-like general purpose blade...Sissipuukko (literally Ranger Knife) M/95 is nice but too big and heavy for precise work.
