    Default Israeli airforce kills

687 enemy airplanes have been shot down in dogfights since Israel`s birth. Only 23 Israeli planes have been shot down by enemy planes since 1948 - a statistic which puts the dogfight victory ratio between Israel and its Arab neighbors at a whopping 30:1.
18 enemy planes were shot down in dogfights in the 1948 War of Independence. A single Israeli plane may have been shot down in a dogfight over the Galilee, but the exact circumstances of its demise were never established in certainty.
Seven enemy planes were shot down in the course of the Sinai Campaign, without a single Israeli plane being shot down.
In the Six Day War, 60 enemy planes and 12 IAF planes were shot down.
The War of Attrition saw 111 enemy planes and four Israeli planes shot down.
277 enemy planes were shot down in the Yom Kippur War - accounting for over a third of the IAF`s total kills since 1948. Of the planes lost by the IAF in the war, only five were shot down in dogfights.
88 enemy planes were shot down in the Peace for Galilee Campaign. Not one Israeli plane was shot down in a dogfight.
126 enemy planes were shot down in dogfights in the years between the wars - most of them in the 70`s.
The IAF lost only two planes in dogfights between the wars, in 1959 and in 1964. The stories of the IAF aircraft`s first kills are here by presented to you.

As an aside, Pakistani pilots flying for Jordan claim 2-4 of the Arab air-to-air kills.

Actually as an Aside of my own

In 1970, Five Russian piloted planes that occasionally fought on behalf of the Egyptians, were shot down by Israeli fighters in air to air engagements with zero losses to any Israeli planes.

On April 7 it was 37 years since a comparatively minor border incident escalated into a full-scale aerial battle between IAF and Syrian fighters over the Golan Heights, resulting in the loss of 7 Syrian MiG-21s.
This incident was to indicate what was later to be, I guess most of you know what...

not many know about almost scurmish in 1996 , between several Russian naval Su-33 (naval Version of Su-27) planes , and Israeli air force plain . The Russian plain flew inside Israeli air space from "Admiral Kuznetsov" carrier in midterrain sea , and provoced IAF planes that flew to intercept him .If not the patient of IAF pilot , that would be probably the end of Russian Su-33 .

    From iaf.org...
To date, the IAF F-15s have shot down 40 planes, all of them Syrian. On June 27th 1979, Brig. Gen. (Res.) Moshe shot down a Syrian MiG-21 in Lebanese skies. This was the first time a MiG-21 had been shot down, anywhere in the world.
I guess the IAF forgot about the Vietnam War? I count roughly 75 U.S. Mig-21 kills, mostly by F-4 Phantoms, including those attributed to such famous pilots as Steve Ritchie and Duke Cunningham.

A nice site, but I'd take its info with a grain of salt. That being said, everyone knows the Isaelis have the best combat record in the world, hands down.

    DLodge , you mean iaf.co.il

    http://www.iaf.co.il/Templates/Aircr...ntPageNumber=3

    in free translation:

in the service of the israeli air force F-15 airplanes shot down 40 enemy planes, all of them are surien. on the june 27th 1979 Brig. Gen. (Res.) Moshe shot down a mig-21 in the skies of lebanon. that was the first shot down of the plane .

when you read it in hebrew and here in free translation in english you understand that the one who worte it meant that the "plane" mentioned is the f-15- and that was realy the first shot down in the world for the f-15.
apparently the translator missunderstood it and wrote that the "plane" is infact the mig-21. and that was the first shot down of a mig -21 in the world.

I belive that this is the one and only mistake you can find there.

    you welcome

    p.s

in other section of the site (the english version):
    http://www.iaf.co.il/Templates/Fligh...=373&freetext=
    somthing like the history section

    it said:

    June 27th 1979
IAF planes bomb terrorist targets in southern Lebanon. In the course of the attack, IAF F-15s and Kfirs shoot down five Syrian MiG-21s. These are the first air victories for these planes ever, anywhere in the world .
the same event, no translation mistakes

I read something a long time ago about how when IAF pilots and US Marine fighter pilots had a simulated dog fight with each other the IAF pilots won more than 100 of the fights.

Well, I think a more fair contest would be IAF vs Navy or Air Force, since those boys got more mpney for the aviation expenses.

It seems to me that the one asset the IDF/AF is clearly lacking is an adequate translator for their English-language website...
