It boggles my mind what you can you use a screwdriver for.![]()
Hi All, I'm a long time viewer, short time member and first time poster, so go easy if I get something wrong.
I have recently read the book Robert's Ridge regarding the Battle of Takur Gahr. In the book, there is a picture of Neil Roberts (below), the SEAL who fell from the Chinook and was killed on the mountaintop - RIP. In the photo, he appears to have a long flat-nosed screwdriver attached with a rubber band to the webbing on his left shoulder. It also looks like there is a spanner of some description beside it.
Can anyone out there who has BTDT tell me why he would need a screwdriver there? Is the rubber band, so he can get to it quickly if necessary
This has been bugging me for a while and I'd be interested in any opinions.

Contrary to what you might beleive the rubber band is there incase he needs to flick someones ears!
and not to enable easy access, as it has been proven in research that rubber bands are garuanteed to be at their strongest and most tangleable when required to be stretchy during streeful situations.
- this post bought to you be flippant captain morgan!
Looks like an Armorer's wrench and a screw driver.
Its useful gear, that's it. Not too sure why you are so hung up on the rubber band.
The scredriver could be used to stab the hell out of someone . But im sure it serves another purpose in this case
List of screwdriver uses:
Stabe the hell out of the bad guy(s)
Unscrew something
Makeshift hammer
Back scracter
Single ****ged fork (for eating those tasty MREs)
Blunt object to hit enemy with
Object to wear on outside of clothing and make people like stealth21 wonder why
(someone else can continue...)
the elastic band is there to stop it slipping out.
Its the same with most shinny objects (say a zippo lighter) if put an elastic band around it, they dont fall out of a pocket as the friction will hold it in place. ....simple
And by the look of this one, hes just using the band to keep it tied in place to his webbing
The screw driver is very normal, doesn't every guy go around looking for a good screw?
Old and bold but all gunners in Rhodesia carried a screwdriver for clearing stoppages on 20mm K-car cannons.
As he also has a armourers wrench I guess he was making sure he could do his job.
Put fire down on the Enemy.
Most have seen the SBS video in Afgan where the MAG gunner has a stoppage.
Slick drills - quick kills.
Shotgun a beer?
When you get stoppages like these ,,, you mite want a "BAS" similiar to PO1 Roberts is carrying:

like the saying goes id rather have one and not need it than to need it and not have it
