    Despite all attempts to prevent it GI's will be GI's and they still managed to fraternize and make babies.
    Few know today but the USA also occupied parts of the Rhineland after WW1. The 4th Infantry, 3rd Division for example occupied Plaidt, Andernach and Saffig, Germany from November 1918 to I believe June 1919. Largely uneventful duty. Many US soldiers could speak German (including Yiddish speaking jews) and had German relatives that they would visit.

    I have never seen this before...Nothing like a unified EU

    On a slightly more serious note...I thought French influence in the EU was greater than Germany's. From my perspective here in the US, the Germans really don't seem to be asserting themselves all that much.
