He's a combat controller, not a PJ. There is a big difference.

Combat controllers will land ahead of airborne (or aircraft borne) troops and will establish landing zones within enemy territory. They direct aircraft and do call for fires to supress enemy defenses.
PJ's: Combat Paramedics with advanced combat skills who recover downed crewmembers (and others) from behind enemy lines.
