    Default 7.62 -vs- 5.56

I like 7.62 and can't stand the .22 caliber weapons that are issued out these days.

I haven't been here that long so i will join in.

I hate the 5.56 round. My favorite is 8mm Mauser but it is not really a common combat round outside of Serbia anymore.

7.62 is a good round if you want to acctually hurt someone.

Does this mean this will become a "the M14 is the best weapon on the world" thread again?

7.62 can over-penetrate and you can carry a lot less of it. As long as you maintain a section GPMG of 7.62 callibre, 5.56 is much more appropriate for riflemen in most cases

Small tactical breifcase nuke beats both hands down! You just can't carry as many in the field. Did I forget to mention it is the best counter-ambush weapon?

Yes, and other polls have had more options:

What is the best assault rifle caliber?

i think a chain saw or a baseball bat would work fine....a little risk of over penitrating with the saw...but the bat gets a good solid hit and rarely over penitrates....

See: http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/Assault.htm for an analysis of the history of assault rifles and their ammunition - plus what would work best.
