    Default Parade in Jyvaskyla 6.12.2006

Jyvaskyla newspaper Keskisuomalainen has nice pics about yesterdays national Finnish independence day parade here:

    http://media.keskisuomalainen.fi/ext...ati/kuvat1.asp

I took part in parade, and I have to say it was great marching through the town with F-18's roaring overhead. Absolute blast. City was packed full of soldiers and spectators. Great day indeed. (too bad for the sad incident that happened)

If somebody can have the pics on their own server to avoid hotlinking it'd be great. I can't do it now.

Could I ask that have Finnish ever been colonized by some superpower before?

I though they fought and win during Finnish War agains the Soviet onslaught during World War II. Sorry for my small knowledge about Finnish.

Between the 13th (?) and 19th century Finland was just a part of Sweden. Then Sweden had to give up Finland and Åland to Russia in one of our numerous wars. In 1917 they gained there indipendence from Russia and the country, Finland, was born.

Ok, I managed to get the pics to photobucket so here they are:

    Driving Buk M1 SAM.

Lt. Col Lagus leading the Armoured Brigade parade unit.

Reservist checking his status in the war-time army from the clerk.

Equipment exhibition was a popular part of the parade. Veteran in the photograph(not related to later parade accident in any way) commented that the Leopard 2 must be the best as the larger caliber (gun) is always better. I must say we think alike.

Henna Virkkunen (left) , General Ilkka Aspara and Kalevi Pulkkinen(veteran).

    Flags of the reservist organisations.

    General public

    General public

Signalman Juhapekka Rasi showing army equipment to Emil, Kimmo, Ulla, ja Ida Kolehmainen.

    Close-range surveillance radar

    General Aspara

    Spectators.

    Generals speech to the troops.

    Priest's speech.

Maakuntajoukot(Regional troops) hoisting the flag over Jyvaskyla

Yours truly, once a tanker always a tanker no matter what they try to tell me.

This time in love with the big cat, although T-72 will remain as my true love.

Any idea if he's related to Ernst Ruben Lagus? Slight chance, but would make sense with his career choice in the military, the armoured forces to be specific.

    Go black berets!

T-72 is also my true love. It's pitty that there will be no exercises with T-72. Soon with green beret and RK65!

And if you look really careful you'll see an RM-70/85 somewhere in the background
