    Nice pics. Thanks.

There are 2 different types of helmets in the pics, what's the deal with that?

    No standardisation for helmets?

I havent seen many French soldiers carrying the FAMAS G2, all of them seem to always use the FAMAS F1. Is the F1 version better? Or is the reason why just because the French military doesn't wanna fork out the extra cash to buy them?

The "slimmer" helmets are for paras, the other larger helmets are for other troops.
Paras need slimmer helmet so that the wires of the parachutes wont touch the helmet(correct me if i am wrong)

Only the navy troops and some SF are issued the Famas G2. I don't know the reason.

The G2 is used by the navy and some specialised units because it's marine coated while the F1 isn't. There's no real use switching over to the G2 in the land forces, it does the job just the same as the G2, except for the five rounds less in a mag at a max capacity. The G2 is said to have a lower slightly lower initial speed and to have a higher fire rate (which is uneeded for the land forces due to the already quite fast -way too fast for some- rate of fire of the F1). They both basically do the same job though.

That rifle is slightly more than 30 year old and it needs and indepth revalorisation to be up among the best rifles around. It's a pretty awesome concept but being one of the first widely deployed bullpups, it's got its flaws and is visibly aging.

Yup, the "ropes" of the EPI "interact" with the sides of the Spectra helmet, that's why the airborne troops still use the F1 helmets mostly when the possibility of a training or operationnal drop is there. A few years ago the F1 could be widely seen in metropolitan france as the ammount of Spectra helmets was insufficient to be issued to all the french units and was reserved for troops that were deployed oversea.

Could you confirm whether or not the firing mechanism will be changed for the FELIN version of the FAMAS? Although the furniture on the rifle was changed, Sagem D&S recieved the current FAMAS rifle for modification, so I presume the basic working parts will remain unchanged.

Are you kidding me ? The french army changing anything to something that still works no matter how old and tired it is ? we're on a budget and I doubt that after having swallowed the cost of the personnal electronics, the people deciding that kind of things will bother having a look at a perfectly fine and working piece of gear in their opinion The STAT would rather get their hands on big popular programmes such as armored vehicles than bother having a look at the internals of the good ol' FAMAS ... I mean, we're still waiting for a replacement for our ANF1, aren't we ? (It's been a while since I've been out). They'd rather spend money on a successor to the FAMAS familly if they had any after all those costly programmes.

(All that's my advice, but I'm far from having the brains of a Christmas tree from the EMAT or a blouse from the STAT

Well, I know some very bright people who work in the rear echelons.... And some of them abandoned highly-paid jobs after a 'late vocation' to join the army as OSC. Anyway, most French soldiers (including high-speed SF ones) will tell you that the FAMAS is an excellent weapon, 'perhaps a bit loud', but robust and reliable. One question for you Belial, since you seem to know your stuff: 1er RI was the first regiment from the "biffe" to introduce some degree of specialisation for its companies (urban combat). Are any other infantry regiments doing the same?
