House intelligence chair calls al Qaeda Shi'ite

    http://today.reuters.com/news/articl...src=rss&rpc=22

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Is al Qaeda a Sunni organization, or Shi'ite?
The question proved nettlesome for Rep. Silvestre Reyes of Texas, incoming Democratic chairman of the House of Representatives Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
"Predominantly -- probably Shi'ite," he said in a recent interview with Congressional Quarterly, a periodical that covers political and legislative issues in Congress.
Unfortunately for Reyes, the al Qaeda network led by Osama bin Laden is comprehensively Sunni and subscribes to a form of Sunni Islam known for not tolerating theological deviation.

In fact, U.S. officials blame al Qaeda's former leader in Iraq, the late Abu Musab al Zarqawi, for the surge in sectarian violence between Sunnis and Shi'ites.
But Reyes' problems in the interview didn't end with al Qaeda.
Asked to describe the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, Congressional Quarterly said Reyes responded: "Hezbollah. Uh, Hezbollah," and then said, "Why do you ask me these questions at five o'clock?"
Reyes' office issued a statement on Monday noting that the Congressional Quarterly interview covered a wide range of topics.
"As a member of the intelligence committee since before 9/11, I'm acutely aware of al Qaeda's desire to harm Americans. The intelligence committee will keep its eye on the ball and focus on the pressing security and intelligence issues facing us," Reyes said in the statement.
A former border patrol agent and a congressional opponent of the Iraq war, the Texas congressman was chosen for the chief intelligence job by House Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi.
She rejected the panel's top-ranking Democrat, Rep. Jane Harman of California, who has had strained relations Pelosi. Next in line in terms of seniority was Rep. Alcee Hastings of Florida, a former federal judge ousted from that post amid allegations of corruption.

No, because is not a republican he got the job. Other qualifications apparently don't matter.

Didn't she try to put Carl Levin in that spot?

What the hell has he done to warrant that?

This lady looks like she's just focused on her victory, and now she's bogged down with decorating her new office.

So when someone knocks on her door and asks her, hey, who do you want on the itelligence commitee, she just starts throwing out names.

Soon, she'll endorse Mel Gibson for ambassador to Israel and Kramer for ambassador to an African country.

    GO NANCY!!!!!!

There was a ladies name brought up this morning on Fox that would have been a better choice, that actually had a major clue, she is a Dem, but for the life of me I can't remember her name.

Jane Harman. She and Pelosi apparently are having some kind of cat fight. Internecine politics.

She's fairly balanced, for a Cali Democrat, and knows her intel stuff better than Reyes. She also one of the few House Democrats with a higher personal wealth than Pelosi, and although she married her money as Pelosi did, she's got an education and has held jobs other than "politician" in her life.

As bad as Republicans are, we're all about to a get reminded why the Democrats are worse. A lot worse.

Much ado about nothing. Haven't you heard, "the insurgency's in its last throes", "we have more than enough troops to secure Iraq" and "we'll be greeted as liberators".

    Jane Harman, that's the one.

For the life of me I could not remember here name and as she stated she is the most qualified for the job on the Dems side, but Pelosi being the Libtard hippie she is cut off her nose to spite her face.

    My favorite pre-war idiocy is still;

    TED KOPPEL
(Off Camera) Well, it's a, I think you'll agree, this is a much bigger project than any that's been talked about. Indeed, I understand that more money is expected to be spent on this than was spent on the entire Marshall Plan for the rebuilding of Europe after World War II.

    ANDREW NATSIOS
No, no. This doesn't even compare remotely with the size of the Marshall Plan.

    TED KOPPEL
(Off Camera) The Marshall Plan was $97 billion.

    ANDREW NATSIOS
    This is 1.7 billion.

    TED KOPPEL
(Off Camera) All right, this is the first. I mean, when you talk about 1.7, you're not suggesting that the rebuilding of Iraq is gonna be done for $1.7 billion?

    ANDREW NATSIOS
Well, in terms of the American taxpayers contribution, I do, this is it for the US. The rest of the rebuilding of Iraq will be done by other countries who have already made pledges, Britain, Germany, Norway, Japan, Canada, and Iraqi oil revenues, eventually in several years, when it's up and running and there's a new government that's been democratically elected, will finish the job with their own revenues. They're going to get in $20 billion a year in oil revenues. But the American part of this will be 1.7 billion. We have no plans for any further-on funding for this.
