Iskander-E is for export. Range 280km, warhead 480kgs. Russian Iskander (sometimes called Tender) has range of about 480km and a 620kg or so warhead. Exported missiles are limited by a missile technology restriction treaty. Russian BMs are limited by Moscow Treaty and INF treaty. INF treaty means land launched missile (ballistic or cruise) must not have a range of between 500 and 5,500km. So in theory a Kh-102 with its 5,500km range with a large solid rocket booster to extend the range to 5,501km would not be bound by the INF treaty.

The right person im camo coat - that's me

    here is simply me

and here I am in the steering wheel

I read that magazine all the time! Very good read, you guys should do a test of the Gaz-66 and gaz-33081...I know the 66 is old but it seems to be pretty popular with off-road enthusiasts...the only thing I don't like about the magazine is all the tests of shiny and expensive SUVs like escalade, mercedes, lexus etc.

Looks like a very fun job!

Any person that is familiar with metal works will confirm, that it is not a simple task, that special equipment and high quality materials must be used. Still all that you are saying may turn truth, but... I do not see any evidence that anything is done to implement the advantages of Vodnik's modular system. No special trailers for transportation of spare modules, even no spare modules ordered by military and produced! So, in my mind, the cost of some virtual potential advantages is too high. By the way all guys, who exploited Vodniks in Chechnya, sayd, that because of thys belt rear hatch is not very convinient - too low and located too high above the ground. Due to the same reason ALL doors and hatches in Vodnik are inconvinient - when I was driving it, getting into the driver's seat needed some acrobatic tricks, and I am not a young recruit... Driver's and commander's places in both variants are located just over the front axle, that makes them very vulnerable whyle mine explosion. The driver's working place is very tight. In comparison with Vodnik the Tiger (that has almost the same running gear and suspension) is comfortable, like Lincoln Navigator in comparison with Willys MB... Oh yes, it's amphybious. But as many of amphybious wheeled vehicles, it has problems when rising from the water on the unprepared bank. When we made an article about them we steered it in a small pond. But to extract Vodnik back on the bank we needed three prepared civilian jeeps with winches... So I guess, that 99% of Vodniks will never see water. Maybe, only on some manoeuvres or tactical exercises, with the task "assoult with river crossing", not in real combat service.
So, from my point of view as test-driver and automotive journalist Vodniks can be used as ersats-APC by military poliece, commandant's office services ets. It's also a wonderfull chassys for special purpose vehicles - ambulances (including light up-armoured for evacuation from the battlefield), mobile workshops, and so on. As a general purpose vehicle Tiger is much more practical and convinient.
This is great, that you as test driver test military vehicles also. I agree with you, that Vodnik is a vehicle like BRDM, very good construction for specialised vehicles, like SAM with Strelets system, tank-hunter with Kornet ATGM, command post vehicle or recce vehicle, but the role for APC is mor suitable for BTRs, Tigers ans Vystrels. How good are Vodniks cross country capabilities? Did you test them in mountains regions too? Maybe they could be in some use for mountains troops because of its compactness.

AFAIK only one missile bataillon delivered and in service in 58th army. Apparently it launched 1-2 missiles during the august war.

    Well ladies and gentlemen

I didnt get much of a chance to do a proper introduction to our new member yesterday, so today will be the day.

I believe this is going to be the first semi/live interview with a member of SF, a man of many talents, and ofcourse our own great guy here on military photos.

So without any further due, let me introduce you guys my good friend Vladimir Krashevsky.

He goes by the nickname VK-SF, as some of you already seen it. Hes been involved with both Ukrainian and Russian SF through serving and journalism for many years. The man of many talents is now after a long career in anti-terror unit, does professional photography, writes articles, and also creates graphics, posters, for most of the SF units around Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.

I have an interesting article about him right here. Unfortunately its in Russian, so if any of our members can translate it, it would be great .

    http://nikportal.net/story.php?id=900&pers=user

VK-SF is a lieutenant colonel of a famous Anti-Terror unit. What can you tell use about it?
