Also it's not a lucky charm, i would not call a lucky charm something acid-blue in forests of north Kavkaz, if AK mags had the same connection system like say G-36 mags, there would've be no "Izolenta". And yes Blue tape IS available, i remember in late 80-s, when etherything was in short supply "Izolenta" was in every shop. If i'll be drunk next time, i'll tell you how to install ballbearings in you **** thus destroying sanity of one particular Lt, "Izolenta" involved.
I said as far sa my experience, and the russians i worked with in sierra leone said that some use it as tacticool, as you call it, you say its not lucky because its blue in a forest, something doesnt have to be camoflauged and blend in to the background to be a lucky charm my friend, besides, not every soldier uses it for this reason, some believe and some dont, get over youreself you are not a know it all, infact you are probably someguy who pretends to be a war veteran yet you hav never heard the crack of a round flying over youre head...ive worked with ex-spetsnaz guys, thats what they told me, hell i even flew in an Mi-8 with them...also maybe you should lay off the verbal abuse a little bit, you are making youreself look foolish

Ah come on guys. He is right. It is blue, because blue is the most available color. I always used black tissue based tape for mags. But it was from my own supply, and also it became sticky at hing temperature. Also if u put this blue tape for the sun exposure it becomes almost black. They say where is 3 rows mags available, but people still prefer to use tape.

Yes. It is standard electrotechnical isolation tape. It was available in USSR in black (cotton based) and blue (polyvinilchloride) colors. PVC tape was prefferable tape for mag duct due to its features. Currently imported PVC tapes are available with different colors, but it is usually more narrow than original blue. So wide blue tape is mostly used for mag duct.

Where else on the net can a person come to join a discussion on why Russian soldiers use blue tape, rather than a different coloured tape, to bind their mags together?

Cool! I never heard about it before.

(I've already googled it - it's modernised PKM "Barsuk".)

Yes thanks above, I mean the Russian soldiers seems prefer to use blue colored duct tape to bind the mags together. I am always wondering if there' a specific reason for.
Have heard two different reasons and don't know which is true. The first reason is that the blue tape is the cheapest and most common.
The second reason is that they have different colours representing different ammo types, so blue might be ball ammo, green might be tracer, white might be blanks etc, where as in the west we might go for red for live ammo and white for blanks.

Don't know which is accurate or if both might be true.

In other words unless there is a Russian Army rule of which colour to use each soldier might have their own system or each might not care which colour is used. Note even if it is an Army rule that is not to say that the VDV (airborne) have the same rule or the same colour code etc etc.

    Warhead maybe?
More likely air conditioned guidance section... open air testing of nuclear weapons has been a no no for a while now, so it is unlikely that a nuclear warhead was involved. Remember this is the test of an ICBM at a testing range so they probably transported the missile in pieces and then assembled it in the launcher silo. The SS-19 is a solid fuelled missile so there is no possibility of fuelling it up in the silo.
