How can you tell? What is the visible difference between the T-90 chassis and T-72B 1989? Both have Kontact-5 inbuild armour in the glacis, so how can you tell?

Was poking around online, found this.

"Khalide Makagonova of the Soviet aerobatic team, 1984 absolute world champion and 1986 world champion, right, talks to Kasum Nazhmudinov, national team head trainer".

Nice nostalgic photo, especially for me.

No recognition manuals, eh? The first, and most obvious in this case (turret is hidden) is presence of ZPU-7 derived CROWS at the CO' station. Second the Tucha smoke mortar bucket arrangement with 6 instead of 12 (all in one plane in T-72B) tubes. The turret of T-90A is plain different, but you cant see it there.

Good photo. I don't like pics like these, they remind me of wild 90's when they canned Katcha academy right when I was being admitted, and the license made Sambas... beat Chinese made ones sold here by a mile.
Ah jeez, I double posted again
Well then, short An-22 **** in the Latin America vid I just uploaded, let's see how long it stays there.

Very simple, and the chassis is definately T-90. If you see only chassis, then you need to look for the drivers periscope area. That area on t-90 are protected by ERA, while T-72BM has no ERA near drivers periscope(to the sides).
Actually T-90A or S don't have ERA around driver's periscope either. That's kind of one of the reasons why some people are so critical of UVZ's solutions around here.

btw, the man on the left is a relative of someone around here

Thankfully for our aerobatic team Su-26 was such a success, because since then there has not been no wind or tale about any replacement. Su-29, 31s are going abroad, but for home -zilch-.

btw the airfield they used to train in Moscow, at Tushino, was closed because high rise buildings were built illegally close, so it was no longer safe for planes to land. yay for ultra-capitalism.

They are 'Sorbtsya' ECM pods - and can be fitted to any Flanker in place of the wingtip missile rails....

It looks like a film set - the soldiers are wearing German uniforms - and there are a couple of 'cardboard' Tigers in the background....

For the AK-74, what as a rule of thumb is the effective accurate firing range using iron sights? Presume generally open ground and firing from a trench.

Same question for AK-47/AKM and RPK?
The AKM, which is what I have has a battle setting for the iron sight that is the equivelent to 300m. With the iron sights zeroed properly and upright man target aimed at the centre of the chest the rounds should hit centre of the chest at 300m. At half that range the bullets would hit above the chest with the centre of the chest still the aim point but not go above the targets head.
The result is that out to about 350m with a centre chest hold you should hit the target in a vital area assuming the target is at the range you think they are. For a better shot you might look at the target and guage if they seem significantly closer or significantly further away than 300m and you can adjust your aim accordingly but as most shots are taken at less than 200m it really isnt an issue. The purpose of the battlesight setting is that it should be good enough regarding the trajectory of the round to get a hit over all normal combat ranges.
I personally don't use that battle setting because the targets I shoot are rather smaller than a standing man. I set the sights to 100m for goat sized targets and will not fire at a target more than 150m or so away or further.
Also worth bearing in mind that Soviet and Russian troops are trained to fire in burst mode most of the time. Firing single shots I would say a 7.62 x 39mm rifle would be a danger out to about 300m-350m. The flatter shooting 5.45mm round probably adds 100m to that effective range, so 400-450m. The LMG versions with bipods are both probably effective out to about 600m or so against group targets of course with burst fire.

Yes, I think the BTR-80 was supporting the attacking group and later they took the injured man inside it. I hope he made it OK.
