Yak-141 (on classification of NATO — Freestyle) — first and unique in the world of supersonic mnogocelevoy airplane of vertical flight and landing (SVVP), produced serially (development of supersonic SVVP F-35 is presently conducted in the USA). He is intended for the intercept of air aims and conduct of manoeuvre infighting, and also for inflictings blows on surface and surface aims. A destroyer can be exploited from the flight-landings grounds of the limited sizes and in ship terms. Flight is vertical or with short running approach, landing is vertical or with a short run. Exploitation is possible from the damaged air fields. In opinion of specialists, in the moment of creation Yak-141 is LED foreign developments on 15-20 years

The car has appeared impractical because of low passableness and controllability.
Gatkii810,
I am a big fan of Russian aviation - but the Yak-141 was not the first supersonic VTOL aircraft - the French Mirage IIIV was.
Much as it saddens me to say so, the French got there first !!
(We Brits would have been first - if the Labour government had not cancelled the Hawker P.1154 in 1964.)

The director of Sukhoi said today that they are going to start with flight test of Pak Fa in "about 2 years".

mistranslation
Nowhere did I say fighter.
It was the worlds first supersonic VTOL aircraft - an aircraft capable of taking off and landing vertically as well as having the ability to exceed Mach 1 in level flight.
I was merely pointing out that it beat the Yak-141 to that title by many years.
