Rest in glory, for every fallen soldier a thousand of those terrorist scums shall fall.

RIP to Him and condolences to his friends and family.

I must say it seems strange to look through a large number of photos of weapons and equipment I am interested in with all the faces blurred except one.

It is a very dangerous business unfortunately.

Business in that is that on a photo not AK-103... and good-old "6Ч12".
But this is a demonstration for the President and certainly not bad troops ...
Yes ... and cartridges for this miracle needed "57-Н-231У".
As the average trooper does not have the choice and generally is issued AK-74s, I would expect this guy had a choice of weapon. If he picked an AKM for the purpose then perhaps that was more about his tastes than anything else. I would suspect 7.62 x 39mm ammo is rather more widespread than 9 x 39mm ammo in most places around the world. In practical terms there is not much between an AK-103 and an AKM, except the number available in stocks. I doubt the target would know the difference.

    RIP Aleksei.

Roman, I'm very sorry for your loss, and very sorry for his friends, family and fellow soldiers. I know he must have been a good guy since he's your friend. I also wanted to say I fully support the Russian military and the Russian people in their fight against terror and extremism.

My condolences to you and his family. I'm going to church today to light a candle for my old man and if you don't mind I'll also light one for your friend Aleksei.

I am a (fat, aging) civilian who is fascinated by military equipment.
My first choice (interest wise) is Russian then Soviet, but I'll play with any weapon or piece of equipment I come across.
Through my interest I have learned a lot about the military and war in general and even in wars I don't support I tend to support the bloke on the ground in the uniform risking their lives because of decisions made by people usually a long way from any front line.
I didn't support George W Bush sending troops in to Iraq or Afghanistan but I wish the troops every success in their attempt to make things better in those places.
I know it wasn't the guy on the grounds choice to invade and I am very cynical as to the initial reasons for going in, but I hope they can make the best of a bad situation.
Every western soldier killed there makes me cringe because I suspect a critical number will eventually be reached where a US president can say we have lost this many and for what... I am pulling the forces out. The really sad thing is that if they pull out and both countries collapse those that have already given their lives will have done so for... well I refuse to say nothing... that would dishonour what has been given already.
Sadly unlike in the movies and novels, the good guys don't always win, and people die. No war was ever won because one side was right and the other side was wrong. Morals and values have never won a war, and in general terms the longer a war goes on the less morality and values effects the way the war is waged.

Respect to you in this time of grief.
