I don't remember where I heard it, but titanium is a metal in high demand over there.. Currently Boeing is contracted to purchase Russian titanium (Russia being the largest world producer of this alloy) along with a few other companies in ultrasound and medicine (information from a few personal connections)

Titanium-alloy hulls were not only useful with regards to diving depth, but also due to the fact that titanium is non-ferromagnetic, meaning that it will not register on Magnetic Resonance Detectors or attract magnetic mines or depth charges. Other advantages of titanium alloy compared to steel:

    - 30% lower mass
    - 25% lower displacement
    - 10% increase in speed (a major improvement for pr. 705 Lira submarines, which at 45 knots could outrun and outdive most Western torpedoes)
    - reduction in magnetic field
    - significantly lower operating costs due to non-corrosive resistance of titanium alloy

Amazing submarines for its time the Pr.705 were.
