    real reason - when you're fighting and sweating balls, it helps the sweat from dripping from the forehead into the eyes, therefore distracting.

    Why not just put a helmet on it? Fighting without a helmet is IMHO stupid.

    They wear it, under the helmet.....

    I never said that it was exclusive to Russia.. I just said that going into a combat zone without a helmet is suicidal.

    My guess would be weight. You see many Russian special units without armor and helmets, especially GRU. They cover large distances for extended periods and weight reduction allows for increased agility and ability for hand-to-hand which is given an ample amount of attention in training. Not to mention helmets don't really help even exacerbate the sweat issue.

    I would then have to agree with Snoshi. If special units go without body armor, then there is a higher chance of dying after being hit. So it may be in Russia's best interest to invest in light body armor for special units.

    They have possibility to dress bullet-proof vest and helmet, but they don't put on them. Can be better they know, what do?
