well I'm not sure PAK FA can be compared to MiG-31 or any other aircraft currently at Russia's disposal on a 1 to 1 basis in terms of technology and integration with AD networks. so the actual numbers required to sustain/improve a meaningful defense capability may be lower

Oh yeah no doubt it won't be 1 for 1 (and shouldn't be), but I don't see how they can get away with much less than 500 airframes to replace both tactical and long range aircraft, in a huge country like Russia, and one that considers an independent policy paramount. Keep in mind I am talking long term, in the short term PAK-FA will be supplemented by SU-35s, upgraded legacy planes, etc.
Russian Air Force will receive a new radar for reconnaissance in the mountains
google translation:
http://vpk.name/news/2302_vvs_rossii...i_v_gorah.htmlRadio engineering troops (TRI) of Russian Air Force will soon have a locator, which will effectively carry out reconnaissance in mountainous terrain.
"Now companies of the PK (Militasry Industrial Complex) are finalizing the work on hardware, which allows to implement a new method for conducting radar reconnaissance of polygonal objects, including in mountainous terrain," - CID chief Maj. Gen. Anatoly Boyarintsev told reporters .
"By deploying such a radar you can block the mountain gorge ", he said.
The general added that the CID has already deployed single samples of the new technology. ""This is a new trend, as till now we did not have any new technology being fielded"

Radar Barrier is bistatic radar with up to 10 stations in a chain, so it could more easily follow contour of mountains.
LOL, I am still amazed by the insistance of the Navy and the shipyard to constantly hide and photoshop the bow, in particular, the torpedo tubes.
Oh, the horror, here they are, Borei's torpedo tubes, uncensored. EDIT: Or were, until I got yelled at. But trust me, they are secret only to officials. 8)
But look, official photos!!!
Shopped
Shopped
Shopped again and again!

This insistense at OPSEC for something that isn't even new (those are the same tubes as on Akula) just makes me a sad panda.

JAWS!
If they consider it OPSEC, then it is OPSEC. I think it wouldn't be bad if you could follow the forum rules regarding OPSEC and remove the picture, like it is common to do in this forum. I mean, just because it's Russian it doesn't make it any less important to maintain OPSEC than for American or European hardware..![]()

What a pleasant photo. 1 956, 3 1155s, 1 1164...would be nice to see a 22350 among them!

Happy now? 8)
PS: There are so many things posted on this forum that are classed as DSP (Internal Use Only) it's not even funny. People don't even realise how many things in the Russian military/government are technically a secret and incur a liability if revealed. But that is a story for another day. 8)
