I guess he is a "Son of the Regiment". Maybe he was "adopted" by army unit when he became an orphan because of war. It was widely spread during this war.

well MoD said that they wont be purchasing any more AK's as the stockpiles are already full of them but eventually they will buy something "modern"

will it be the AK12, Abakan, AEK or something else

There were hundreds of thousands of teenagers younger than 18 years old fighting on the Soviet Side. When villages ran out of men, they would send their sons. My grandfather started fighting at 16.5 years old, first just with the partisan unit out of the surrounding small towns/villages, but then he joined the army.

My grandfather enlisted at the age of 16 by faking his passport so that it said he was 18. Luckily he was stationed on the Manchurian front and did not go through the Eastern front meat grinder.

Mine's too. He started in his 15 with partisans in Belorussia.

If you are meaning the American army was composed of "men" then yes you are correct.
