The prototype had two tailfins. It's pretty much common knowledge that the MiG-25 was heavily inspired by the Vigilante's airframe and capabilities.

No reason to get your knickers in a twist, Garry.

Never saw a Vigilante with two fins. Can you present the picture?

"Preatty much common" is a poor argument actually. Better would be to present words from Mikoyan buro members, not internet rumors.

The only thing shaping MiG-25 was inability of Soviet air defenses to deal with U-2 spy aircraft and stratospheric Hydrogen balloons. Comparing MiG-25 to Vigilante family is like apples and bananas.

I think both of them are pretty far removed from each other, ones an attack/bomber, ones an interceptor, the A-5's main claim to the speed it could attain was not by it's air-frame, but by it's internal payload, which is something the MiG-25 doesn't even do.

Looking at pics of the MiG-29SMT and the two Su-35 prototypes, it looks like the Russian AF is adopting the use of electroluminescent formation lights - known colloquially in the west as 'Slime Lights'.

They are on the fin, wingtips and forward fuselage in the photo above....

Anyone know if this is going to be standard on future airframes??

    Ken

Those are MVD guys, in field of heavy weapons they equipped with "hands me down" army stuff, you gonna see they Mi-8s they like "Disco-old" buckets of bolts. In times of 1-st Chechen war and after, MVD brass wanted "Can i haz some tanks?" coz there are craploads of T-72s from East Germany rusting away. But army put a red tape on it, one reason is "My **** is bigger than yours" and other, MVD love to steal most competent cadres from Military, better payment, social garantees and stuff.
