Good point. But personally I think that there nothing to talk about much. Every country shows its soldiers as the perfect ones. For instance, Soviet soldiers in foreign countries wore leather boots while soldiers inside the country wore "kirzachi" (tarpaulin-made, with PU-steep boots).
And such examples are all around the world.

Yeah. Good point once again )) I didn't know that. All I know that there were numerous red flags over Reichstag, but inly one was chosen as the "victory" one. BTW there is a rumor that was chosen the squad where one of soldiers was Georgian - to flatter Stalin of course.

The only shortage of rifles I ever read about in Russia during WWII was when Stalin was feeding troops into Stalingrad to hold the germans there. One Unit went across the river before they were supposed to because the Germans made more progress in one area than they were expected to. This mean that that Soivet unit went across the river not fully equipped with rifles... and when I say not fully equipped one in ten soliders that were supposed to have rifles did not have them... 9 out of ten were armed with rifles. When they got to the other side of the river, just like in any other siege battle there were plenty of weapons and plenty of dead bodies to take more weapons from... german and soviet. The problems were ammo supply and live bodies to fire the rifles. Have read of a group of 5 Soviet soliders holding a building all night and when a relief force came up to relieve them each man had his own position with rifles, pistols, and submachineguns stacked up around them... firing a round or two from each weapon every few minutes to make the enemy think there were dozens of men in the building from both sides (ie german weapons were used too or the germans would have simply blown up the whole building).
