Thanks Roman for creating this thread, and everybody else who has contributed. I’ve been going threw it for 2 months, and I just hit page 900. Hopefully in a couple weeks I’ll be able to enjoy this thread real time. Until then here are some screen captures I did a few years ago.

I thought they were after quality with the PAK-FA but perhaps it is just another MiG-29...

Just as NATO would target Russian ground radars I would expect any airfield capable of operating AWACs aircraft in NATO countries would be nuked in minutes of the conflict starting. SA-5s with nuclear warheads would likely be used against AWACs as well.
This isn't a game. The nuclear threshold right now would be crossed as soon as a nuclear armed NATO country declared support for any attack on Russia that had any glimmer of doing any real damage.
Although Russian leaders are portrayed in a variety of ways in western media, I would bet they'd like to keep any conflict non-nuclear for as long as possible.

It would offer advantages in SA to air forces that operate without long wave radar support. The Russian GCI operator should be able to tell that that clear radar return from the metric wave radars that is at 20,000m and flying at mach 1.5 and doesn't show on the HF radars or is the size of a bee on those radars is probably an F-22.
On the other hand you are saying russian long wave radars can detect stealth aircraft. On the other hand you are saying if Russia had stealth aircraft, they wouldn't know where their own planes are flying. You should make up your mind whether they see stealth or not.

And you think a datalink signal from the middle of nowhere might be suspicious?
With all the electronic emissions in today's battlefield, it is not that simple to find short datalink bursts and figure out that burst is from a stealth aircraft and direct fighters to that location in a matter of seconds.

Perhaps Moscow should call Washington how on earth they know where their F-22's are flying.

It's a bit like saying Russia should make their submarines as loud as possible so that their surface vessels don't torpedo the **** out of them.

Not really. At the end of the day you have to make a choice about specialisation. A smaller lighter aircraft is better for a role like point defence. Short range fighters by definition can't be sent off on another mission if their only capability is point defence. The longer range Sukhois on the other hand might get borrowed from place to place. They also use the same weapons, fuel, cannon ammo etc. Different aircraft for different roles makes sense. (If you have Mig-29s and Su-27s and you need some fighters to escort an Su-24 mission then you will obviously take the Su-27, and not because it has any commonality with the Su-24 except for the Su in its name)
At the end of the day there is not much the MiG-29 can do which the Su-27 can't, except of being cheaper. The role of MiG-29 could be easily fulfilled by the Su-27, and due to the fact that the range of Flankers is greater, less planes would be needed for point defence role. Plus they could fill other roles the MiG-29 is not capable of.

If Russia really needed a point defence interceptor, they would be developing 2 different designs instead of the current PAK-FA.

Having shorter range more multirole aircraft is more useful.
Having longer range more multirole aircraft is more useful, to be accurate.

RHAWs and an onboard jammer does not make the Mig-29 multirole. Most of the offered upgrades for the Mig-29 (SMT, M, M2, and now -35) offered multirole capability but they didn't want it because it is already capable of doing what they want it to do.
... which essentially means they don't need a short range multirole aircraft.

Using that logic they should get rid of both the Mig-29 and Su-27 and just make Su-34s.
The reality is that using a great big Su-27 for ground attack is silly. They already have the Su-34 and even Tu-22M3 for the strike role. It makes more sense to save money and just use the Su-27 for air to air and upgrade the Mig-29s to be able to use them as swing fighterbombers.
Using MiG-29 for ground attack is far sillier than using the Su-27, due to the fact that the MiG can never be as versatile as the Sukhoi in that role. However due to the fact that they invented the Su-34 it is apparent that neither MiG-29 nor Su-27 had enough ground attack potential.

They already have the Su-25 as a CAS aircraft, what would Fulcrum add? Do you think the Russians are stupid because they haven't discovered the great ground attack potential the MiG-29 supposedly has?

It is second after Eichenlaubtarn ressurection of German WW2 camo. Way back in this thread You can spot a man from OMON getting out of train, he wears this particular Splinter camo.

Using 2 systems simultaneously make possible to determine you position with high accuracy(less than 5 metres).

no problem, he can send camos vests boots to you. there could be problems with sending body armor, helmets, flares, guns, gunparts, ammo and etc.

Chabanenko doesn't have SA-N-7 launchers. It's one of the project 956 ships.

So is Russia planning to purchase the Brahmos or are they going with a new anti-ship missile?
