Very good trend IMHO. Cossacks should be officially recognized and allowed to to what they do best - defending Russia.
    Thanks! And I agree.

This might be a stupid question, but why some Mi-24 can retract their wheels while others not?

They all do, some of them may not retract if they are transporting troops over short distances and require quick landing without stalling. (personal inference)

Ohhhhhhh I see, I was asking because I have seen a lot of pics of them where the landing gear can be seen hehe. Well thanks a lot!

No problem, good question. The Hind is a heavy monster and isn't, as you can say, the best helicopter for fast stops and hovering

Indeed, no wonder it was a huge influence in star wars. What I like the most about the hind is its looks, an evil looking war machine.

Actually, some of the latest models do not have retractable wheels. Basically, it is a trade-off between aerodynamics at high speeds and the weight of the retraction mechanism. Im pretty sure the Mi-35 for example has fixed wheels, thus saving weight.

I should have said that is the Mi-35 like the ones that Venezuela got. Thanks Void!

It never even occurred to me that in pictures the Hind's wheels sometimes are retracted and sometimes not.

New and modernized Mi-24, like Mi-24VM\Mi-35M3 can't retract wheels and got about 120kg weight saving from it.

They do not retract them so that they can absorb shock in case of emergency landing or (low altitude) crash.
