Those two are on sale for civilian buyers as warbirds for airshows and private enjoyment.

The US military won't be using them for aggressor training. There have been other shots from the skies above Nevada showing the Flanker's characteristic good lines from a distance. These are the ones I was referring to.
This is by far the most famous shot. It is of poor quality due to it being taken from almost 15 miles away.
Supposedly taken in 2004 during Red Flag. Sadly, shots over Groom Lake won't get any better than this. The closest you can legally get to the base on public land is 15 miles. Even then, you can't see the base directly. The only way to see into the base is with a telephoto lens from one of the peaks around the base, and the USAF has slowly but surely been buying that land up
Author Steve Davies, who wrote "Red Eagles" about the US aggressor program, writes about the USAF starting the search for Su-27s around 1992.
People who quote lots of pictures should get instant ban. Was that really necessary djoker?
I do not know for sure but it seems to me that it is aditional bolted on armour. Whetever it is composite or not.
BMP in question is an early BMP-2M variation.
The ERA could just be used as an first line of fysical passive active armour. Besides, the backplate of the ERA blocks stay attached forming a small layer of pernament passive armour. The main bulk of the passive armour could very well be made out of composite armour. As for ERA, doesn't the block explode after contact with the rocket, preventing the rocket from blowing up and penetrating the armor? If so, then it is a 1 time deal, making it not nearly as feasible (IMO) compared to newer generations of composite materials.
Wait a second... Isnt the BTR-90 an IFV then? Damn. Oh well, I hope that armour and armament are getting good upgrades since the rest is just fine.If anything, BTR should just have the armor sufficient to be able to protect the crew from the most basic of weapons (RPG-7, AK rounds and anti-tank), but adding on heavy armor and heavy weaponry kind of defeates the purpose of an APC, and just makes it an IFV, which I see the BMPT and BMP-4 as more sufficient vehicles that would do the job well.
Either Bachka-U turret or a new 37 to 57mm auto-cannon and armour to be imune from 30mm auto-cannon fire and be resistant against 35 to 40mm auto-cannons from the CV90 series.
So that is how it works. Many thanks GazB. You are truly a great source of knowledge!
To all: Any guesses when MAKS 2009 begins?
