According to Russia's air force commander-in-chief, Vladimir Mikhaylov, Russia's state arms program for the period to 2010 assumes the upgrade of 12 Il-76 airplanes.
    1) Never believe any official announcements by Mikhailov.

    2) He is now replaced by Alexander Zelin.

In the infantry units the tanks formed a smaller fraction of forces than infantry units. Front line Motor Rifle units tended to have the best, most expensive stuff, while lower readiness units had cheaper vehicles. There were two distinct classes in the end of Motor Rifle units and Tank units. The top units had the latest model tracked transporters... ie BMP (1,2,3) and the newest tanks, while the lower readiness units had wheeled transporters like the BTR series and older tanks. For many years the US has poured scorn on the utility of the wheeled BTRs, but they are much cheaper to buy and operate than track layers and got the Soviet infantry out of trucks into something with some armour protection and firepower.

By the mid-70s no AFV-less units were left, so now they are all called motorized infantry.

thank you you guys with that explanation,
in my country, we only have a mechanized brigade and they moved with an armoured personel carrier like M113 or other wheeled armoured vehicle

TARANTUL class Corvette R-60 received a CIWS gun/missile system (I believe it is called PALASH) recently.

The system being installed (JAnuary 2006)

After sea trials (May 2006). The ship has been "weathered"

Amazing what a fresh coat of paint does (April 2007)

Which brings the question - are there still any Russian fleet ships in Sevastopol or only Ukrainian?
