It is russian militaty WWII-era identifier, container with letter inside.
in that letter had to be written information about soldier - name, rank, unit.
Often soldiers dropped this containers. They had a superstition that if they will fill the letter, they will be killed.
Thats why so many soldiers of Red Army was burried as "unknown".

Is the Russian army planning on using the Flora pattern as the standard camo for all its troops?

*Offtopic* Wasn't sure where to post the question, but does anyone aware of any GRU Spetsnaz operations in Kosovo conflict? Particularly an incident where a group of 18 S.F. & SAS were killed in an ambush about 2 weeks after the official start? I can't find anything about it on inet or other discussion threads.

P.S. I've been reading this forum for years… and know there are a few knowledgeable members here.

I changed the message - including the citation. Hopefully now clear.
    It is a soldier's medallion.

Bakelite (****ounced /ˈbеɪkɨlaɪt/), or polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride, is an early plastic. It is a thermosetting phenol formaldehyde resin, formed from an elimination reaction of phenol with formaldehyde, usually with a wood flour filler. It was developed in 1907–1909 by Belgian chemist Dr. Leo Baekeland.

Not sure about actual firefight encounters (I figure that kind of information would be extremely sensitive, and classified.) HOWEVER. Russian airborne troops (VDV) did take over Pristina airfield in Kosovo before NATO forces arrived there. This was a notorious event during the Kosovo conflict which ALMOST led to an armed encounter between Russian VDV and NATO contingent. In fact US General Wesley Clark ordered one of his British subordinates to clear out Pristina airfield by any means necessary, to which he basically told to go f*ck himself.

I'm aware of this event. I was also told it was meant to be a diversion for something else. Incident I'm talking about happened prior to that and I was hoping there was something more concrete to read upon. Thanks though.
