In the early April 2010 it was announced that by the end of 2012 the ship will enter Severodvinsk Sevmash shipyard for a major refit and modernisation.[18] The report states that the refit will include upgrades to the obsolete electronics and sensor equipment, installation of the new anti-aircraft system and increase of the air wing by the removal of the P-700 Granit antiship missiles. Upgrades might also include exchanging the troublesome steam powerplant to the gas-turbine or even nuclear propulsion and installation of catapults to the angled deck. Modifications to accommodate the naval variant of PAK-FA are also possible.

A folded Su-33 actually takes up less deck space than a folded MiG-29 - the 'footprint' was deliberately made smaller.

Could you please show me the figures?

With further upgrades, getting rid of the P-700 Granit cruise missiles, it will save an additional 4,500-5,000 sq.m of room. So more room for fixed wing aircrafts/helicopters. Also, there is talk of adding in a new generation of medium surface to air missile system. Anyone know of a new one coming out?

    RIAN - Info found here.

Official reports actually told only about electronics upgrades and Granit removal, but it doesn't really fit the projected duration of refit -- it could be done much quicker that in five years, and the steam powerplant of Kuznetsov was nothing but pure trouble from the very beginning, so replacing it would be the logical decision. It might be diesel (like on ex-Gorshkov) or gas turbine, but given that the projected new carriers are to be nuclear, it's again only logical to test their engines before the large series is started. The same about the catapult, but with one catch -- doing it quickly and cheaply would require a nuclear powerplant. The Soviet Union have designed and even produced a prototype of a steam catapult for the unbuilt Ul'yanovsk, so if the new engines on Kuznetsov will be nuclear, it'd take only dusting off the old blueprints, but diesel and turbine propulsion won't have the necessary amount of high-pressure steam available, so the only choice would be an EM-catapult, which needs to be completely new and untried.

Good for you. But did you get the sources from RIAN, cause I posted a link to that as well. Here, I'll do it again:

    RIAN

The ship's 3M45 P-700 Granit (SS-N-19 Shipwreck) anti-ship cruise-missile launchers will be dismantled, and her internal layout changed. Consequently, the hangar area will be expanded to 4,500-5,000 sq. m. for storing additional fixed-wing aircraft.
    and

First of all, the defective propulsion unit comprising steam turbines and turbo-pressurized boilers will be replaced either with a gas-turbine or nuclear propulsion unit.
Unless they are quoting you then. So all their information is off of Wikipedia.

Not exactly. I just happen to know the RIAN military analyst Ilya Kramnik (he also visit this thread sometimes, too), and we discussed the Kuznetsov refit quite at length (well, his connections are better, so most of genuine sources were his). So you can take that both Wiki info and RIAN article has the same sources.

Well, since I don't know you and the fact that this is the internet, I am taking this quote with a grain of salt. And I agree with your assumptions regarding upgrades because the major part is the time frame of the upgrades. Quite a long time for it being overhauled, so they are probably doing a lot to it, and getting rid of its engines now make most sense.

@ Hyde, thank you for the pic, but it does not show Mig-29K's.
