I see there isn't much confidence in Izvestia article, i for one hopes it turns out to be true. And yeah, Su-35S-1 til S-5 are beauties. Having seen S-1 in real life, i certainly approve of it.

    PS: Thanks for terminator doc.

Nice video of BMPT. I wonder if army will buy some of them now, when Shoigu is in charge. VDV get their BMD-4M, maybe army will get BMPT too.

Some photos as an announcement of the report from my recent trip to Internal troops training range for photo hunt of Ural Federal armored truck, that is used mainly in Internal troops special units and had a nickname "Pokemon". This time the officers from 604th Special Purpose Center (former Vityaz and Rus' special units) had a short training of building assault at the training range and it helped me to take some action photos of Ural Federal with special units operators.

All photos are pure originals in high resolution 5616x3744 and without any editing. Hope to post the full report before the New Year.

I'm confused, has the BMPT entered service or not? I know Kazakhstan ordered a few but I thought the Russians weren't interested

No, as far as I know.
As a reason for not buying this machine MoD said that they didn't know yet how to integrate it into current organizational structure and doctrine. Also they are waiting for Armata platform.

Realistically, BMPT would be very very useful in Chechnya, but active phase of war there was ended several years ago, so BMPT is a little late to the party.

Don't get your hopes high, those 10xBMD-4M and 10xBTR-MD "Rakushka" might turn out as another acceptance/exploatation trials, and remember the fate of Sprut-SD...

And they have been waiting for Kurganets a long time, and now they just gave up the waiting and decided to go with 4Ms and Rakushkas, when they could have gone this way 2 years ago?

Personally, I don't believe they can achieve unification and VDV specific needs on kurganets platform and I always wanted to see 4Ms mass production (right decission), but something is fishy here...

Oh btw, BMD-4M with additional armour can float, proof here:

and Rakushkas got some unification with 4Ms (chassis vise):

What is the main "selling point" of Rakushka? On aesthetic appearance alone it looks very dated - a square box with tracks similar to ancient M113. So, there must be more to the design then meets the eye since it is being posed as very innovative and modern.

Somehow that "Federal" doesn't look like Federal but as Zvezda-V.

    Zvezda-V.

Are there many countries in the world which are using such vehicles? Which are need to be not only APCs but also should jump with airborne guys and so on?
There is almost no, if any, market outside Russia for it.
And if we are talking about inner-duties it's more about need to change old BTR-D with smthng new which may look not so tacticool but at least having newer engines, transmissions and etc.
I guess the problem is that if there would be new vehicle for airborne troops on unified base-there will be no consumer for almost new Rakushkas.(if they'll be in mass production just some years before)

So, essentially it is just a very lightly armored and armed utility box that is amphibious and para-droppable?

Project was fairly secretive until recently, with only several crappy quality pics circulating around and some people describing it as the best thing since sliced bread, so I suppose I expected a little more radical innovation as far as characteristics not related to amphibious and para capabilities went.

Are you blind? It was made out of BMD-3, just like 4 and 4m was.
    More modern,
    better armour than btr-d,
more space inside both for cargo, both for crew and their comfort.
btr-d was a platform for various modifications, Rakushka is too, hell they are even developing SAM platform on it (seven road wheels).
But you have to read it your self what advantages BMD-3 platform gave, over BMD-1/2.

объект 955 (Object 955), if it'll help you find what you seek.
