Awesome, thanks for that - quite clearly the Stereguschy is armed with its SSMs.

IF I recall correctly the Steregushy is armed with 2 AK-630 6-barreled 30mm gun mounts, 1 Kashtan mount incorporating guns and missiles, A-190M 100mm artillery system, 8 Uran missiles, 2 14.5 mm heavy machine guns and I'm not sure regarding the anti-sub weapons.

The second ship of the class, the Soobrazitelnyy, was laid down in early 2003.

Pretty heavy punch for the ship of it's size.

+ 2x2 533mm torpedo tubes. RBU-6000 was supposed to be installed either but apparently wasn't.

Generally a rather weak ship, no Yakhonts, no decent SAM. For a 2000t vessel not that bad, but the question is which role it is supposed to do in the russian navy.

My first response would be "make up the numbers" - but it should be good for work close to shore against both enemy submarines and surface ships, and it's Kashtan system + 30mm CIWS should be adequate for defence against enemy anti ship missiles and/or low-flying aircraft. It definitely appears more capable to me than the (IIRC larger) old Soviet Krivak frigates, and it's only a corvette!

As it is, the Uran SSMs are quite capable (Harpoon equivalent), however Oniks or BraMos (Yakhont = export) SSMs are being integrated on the most recent Pr. 20380 laid down, together with replacing the Kashtan system with the latest version of Kinzhal/Klinok (SA-N-9 GAUNTLET), apparently.

Yes, there are rumours that the 2nd and further PR. 20380 ships will have a different armament.

The CLUB missile system is the most frequently mentioned AShM(Yakhont/Brahmos takes too much space).

There is even talk of the smaller missile of the S-300-PMU2/ S-400 surface to air complex being installed...

We will know when we see the next ship.

In my opinion, the Steregushys are not true ocean going ships (only 2000 tons), so they will operate mostly within shore based fighter range. Thus there is no need for a heavy air defense system. Kinzhal, Kashtan or a navalized Pantsir is fine for a ship of that size and for the missions it is designed for. Out of the 3, the vertical launch Kinzhal should be the most appropriate for stealthiness. The 2 AKM-630 gattling guns should do the rest for close range defense.

As for the KH-35 URAN antiship missile. I don't really believe that missile has a future in the Russian navy. It is an equivalent to the subsonic Harpoon, exocet etc. I don't consider it a cutting edge modern design. It is good for exports. The Russian/Soviet navy always had superior antiship missiles like the supersonic Moskit and others. I believe the CLUB is a good choice for these ships.

BTW, apart from the Steregushy which is already in service, there are four other Pr.20380 ships under construction:
    - Soobrazitelny
    - Boiky
    - Sovershenny
    - Stoiky
