The Tu-95 is the bomber and missile launcher version (for ground and naval targets), the tu-142 is the ASW version.
NATO codename is BEAR for both, rather confusing, i know.

That'll teach me not to be accurate; what I actually meant was: how do you tell just by looking? The planes in these photos look like normal TU95s, So what is it that identifies them as -142s?

See the round thing under the nose? ASW equipment (I think) on the 142, not present on the 95.

    Well,
The Tu-95 has a nose radome (radar for homing missile or SIGINT equipment) while the Tu-142 has a glass nose.
to complicate the first tu-95 batch had a glass nose (it was the bomber/observer post) !
    I hope you copy.

Yes no problems with it, but it is a symbol of communism which has ended in Russia, I thought it would only be natural to return to the pre revolution symbols, I think they have done that everwhere except the AF why is that?

Kinda like the German Air Force, they have had the same insignia since WWI. Which if you say the red star is a symbol of communism, then you could say alot of bad things about the German Air Force cross.
