Thats not correct.
They DO accept French, but they HAVE to have their name and nationality changed, usually to another frenchspeaking country... You wouldne't BELIVE how many swiss, belgians and canadians you find in the legion.... |

i dont know, why would someone not join there own army, but go and join an army in another country...that just seems different, though the FFL is a intruiging and skilled group.

Frenchmen could claim to be Belgian or Swiss, no? Perhaps they want to get into a unit that deploys a lot. Just my thoughts...

usa320,
I think that maybe some guys just like being in the military and fighting. Mercenaries, for instance. I myself would never enlist in the military service of a foreign country, or be a mercenary. |

Let's get our facts straight:
French citizens can only join the Foreign Legion as officers. You can only sign up to join the Legion at a recruiting office. And that means in France. So you need a passport to get there. And you have to give up your passport (your ORIGINAL passport) when you join the Legion. So, no, a french citizen would not be able to falsify his citizenship. Is that clear enough? |
