Say Hugo backed up his rhetoric of a "greater Venezuela" and made a grab for the Dutch West Indies? Would the US or Brits help out? Thoughts? |

We actually talk paragraph 5 here...
And because there are no islamists to piss off, the rest of NATO might actually be willing to contribute as well... |

I doubt that Venezuela would try that, after all, The Netherlands would get help from other NATO countries. At least it should.

Those 8 Karel Doorman frigates have been reduced to just 2 and we have had those Apaches for nearly ten years now. It's also interesting to note that we have F-16s based in North America.
Once we have those tomahawks delivered I doubt Chavez will try anything. Btw. alot of people in the Netherlands would say good riddance, let him keep those islands. |

Well I think countries like Britain and France who have similar interests in the region won't be too happy with a move like this either. So I'm fairly sure they would help out in one way or another. But than again nobody helped the British with the Falklands.

No offence, but IMHO that article is a real piece of sh!t.
He uses about 1000 words only to say that the Netherlands ain't no military superpower... That and it's Johan de Witt and St. Maarten |

Despite Hugo Chavez’s military build-up via friends, and a week internal opposition group,
any attempts at regional domination will be met with force from the US, Britain, Dutch and others. Has Chavis read the history of the Falklands War? Perhaps a good read of Operation Urgent Fury will settle any doubts about expansion. The Venezuelan military is untested and will be rudely introduced to the speed of modern warfare. How does Chavez intend to protect his logistical train in the event Venezuela achieves a successful first strike (doubtful with satellites watching for any unusual military activity). Venezuela would be isolated by the US Navy, whose ability to “project power” is unprecedented. Hist2004 |

France has antillains islands (Martinique / Guadeloupe) there and french guyana ? If France and Holland get along, then they can counter Chavez anyday. It's not like Venezuela is that much of a big deal beside having a tough-talker as a president anyway.

If the Dutch need help I'm sure we can lend 3 commando brigade to help and the Dutch and Royal marines can go into to battle again just like Gibraltar But once the Dutch get the cruise missile's I think they will destroy most of the Venezulan air force on the ground so the limited range of their F-16's won't be as much of a problem. |
