Well, I´m all for exposing the past, conforting it and teaching people how it really was. Germany pretty much leanred for all this and did and still do a lot regarding out Nazi past and the crimes that where comitted back then. We all do that, so the history cant repeat itself all over again.
I think thats what the Japanese goverment should do also. But so far, there are lots od denials and relativations of things happend. Ya know, I could never ever see the Japanese Prime minister making a kneefall in front of a Memorial build to rember on things like what happend in Nanking. Chancellor Willy Brand, did such a thing at the Warsaw Ghetto memorial and it was something that was regarded as something bad back then, but today, we know that it was a gesture that had a great impact. But its not all about gestures and apologies alone, its all about education and about telling the truth, telling the FACTS, to the japanese people. They need to know what thier country did back then, what was done in the name of the Emperor and that he wasnt such a good man as everyone belives. Many of you guys wonder why China or South Korea had lots of tension with Japan in the 90s and build up powerful armies. It was in 1995 where some South Koreans where taling about a nw Japanese threat. The old fears are still there and thats the problem and thats where Japan needs to do something. I think its simply boils down to the fact, that japan needs to educate thier people in a diffrent way, like mentioned above. In school and tv, they need to learn the history like it happend, with all the bloodshed, the crimes and the terror, the view on the whole issue needs to be changed. For one thing, the politicans should jump over thier own shadows and admin the hard truth, even if it means that some world visons are chatterd and some honor is lost. |

I'm all for educating people on what happeend in the past. Personally, I feel that ignoring such atrocities is more likely to fuel a repeat than learning about how terrible it is.
And "big bad" China is more likely to find allies in S. Korea and other nations in the region against the Japanese than the rest against China because painful scars do not heal easily. It's not easy to forget an entire population's women being turned into prostitues and so on. |

Also, as far as I know, during/after the Nangking massacre, some high ranking Nazis, mostly SS visited the scene too see how the japanese fought and even more, see how effective the terror worked on the people. It was said, that they took notes and where extremly intrested in the killing spree going on. No idea if thats true, but Japan fought against Nazis? Nice fiction. Has anyone anymore insane pices of propaganda to present? |

Nanjing massacre should be not only regarded as a war atrocity itself, but more as a symbol of the catastrope that Jananese militarism brought to the rest of Asia or even the world.
Dozens of Milloins of Chinese lost their lives during the 14 years (31-45), so what is the meaning to argue whether it was 150,000 or 300,000 of them were actually killed in Nanjing? For the same reason, even you can "correct" the number of Jews killed in Auschwitz from 1 millon to a half million, what difference can you make? The bloody big picture already there is convincible enought. Changing some dots in it from dark red to pink makes nothing different, but only shows that people who are trying to make the change do not learn enough from the histroy. |

Who is this guy? Some right-wing Japanese-American? He seems to be out of touch with reality.
