I heard it was because they were using old torpedoes and one had a leak or something which made the fuild inside it go through some pipes and blew up the torpedo.

But it was ages ago. So im not to sure.

It leaked because it was a NEW not sufficiently tested torpedo with Hydrogen-Peroxid-bases propulsion.

Great pics but what I want to know is what ever happened to the front bit of the sub that they went to so much trouble removing underwater before the sub was lifted? Did they leave it underwater? Afterall, this remaining structure had the torpedos that were allegedly responsible for the explosion.
