I was surfing the web one day and I came across this on a BBC site:
![]() I thought it was a M16/AR-15 type weapon at first because of the carrying handle but the magazine doesnt seems more like a 5.45x39mm (AK74) magazine. Anyone know what it is? |

It probably a modified M-16 to fire 5.45x39mm or 7.62x39mm.

Doesn't look like a modified m16, you can see that it is a tab magazine release, like on a lot of European firearms, also just above his left index finger you can see the cocking handle sticking out from the weapon. It looks to be a reciprocating type handle, both of which suggest that this weapon is not based on a m16.

When you think about, I seen this picture before on this site a few months ago. I believe it was AKS-74U with M-16 components, but I can be wrong.

I think it was back in November from a hostage situation in a school. I think it was a home made weapon from that area.

I think a more relevant question is how does he expect that gasmask to work when sporting such a full beard.

what is the situation with the picture anyway,?
Gasmask?(for tear gas?), and not going to get much protection with that beard sticking out of it. |

It was at the siege of the Red Mosque or something along those lines.

Kinda looks like a slightly modified Singaporean SR-88 carbine.

It seems to look like something turned out in a machine shop (ie manufactured locally). Or something extensively modified by some type of back room gun smith.

They are good at making fruity weapons in Pakistan. There was a tv show about it. I think it was posted here.
