Your question about is there a submarine below where the water is in the picture? You are correct. The system was designed to be compatible with most submarine mating surfaces. It has the same dimensions of Submarine Rescue Chamber (SRC) or McCann Bell. I happen to be one of the pilots for the US Navy's SRS-RCS. We have the ability to mate to a submarine hatch at any angle between 0 and 45 degrees due to our articulated skirt. The system is new and quite impressive.
